Originally, I’m from Gary, Indiana, near Chicago, where my mom was a Phd. Professor Emeritus of Nursing, and my father was a Civil Engineer / M.B.A. for U.S. Steel. Once my idyllic youth of baseball, football, offroading, and climbing structures both natural and man-made ended, my dad handed me a Laborer’s Union Local 81 card. And a gate pass for “the big mill.”
It was a job I did every summer between college to fund my education. And after college, too. Enough to entitle me to $92 a month when I’m 60. It’ll be the sweetest check I ever cash.
After shoveling slag, running jackhammers, and working a 28-hour straight concrete pour, you learn things about life, and people, no classroom can ever reveal. And you develop a work ethic. Eventually, after some portfolio schooling – I was able to bring that tenacity to the advertising world.
After earning a double major in English and Telecommunications at Indiana University, I started my writing career in radio, crafting spots, promos, news, and comedy bits in Atlanta, where I graduated from Portfolio Center. From there, I moved to New York, where I’ve been based for over twenty years. Career highlights include pitching business with Jay Chiat, working on USAA, BMW, Citi and tons of other great brands, freelancing steadily for over a decade, publishing fiction and journalism, playing in several bar bands, doing some voice over work, and winning a few shiny objects, too.

Executive Creative Director / Writer
From digital to traditional, I am a versatile writer who has the ability to create as well as inspire others to create powerful, attention-getting ideas. My core competencies revolve around writing with impact, originality, and being the consummate wordsmith, whether it be three words or three thousand.
Saatchi & Saatchi – Executive Creative Director (2017-present)
-currently managing all creative development and brand advertising for USAA’s various lines of business ranging from banking to insurance to military affairs. I also supervise a three agency creative department, across three geographies, and across digital, social, broadcast, and print mediums, writing and developing strategies, and managing the entire television and post production process.
Publicis – Creative Director (2011-2016)
-wrote and produced some of Citi’s most icnonic and award-winning commercials and 360 campaigns over the past few years and launched the groundbreaking Citibike program, creating voice, tone, messaging and overall brand identity.
-created a branded entertainment film / integrated effort for Crest +Oral-B that received 8 million views, won multiple Effies, and was voted Adweek’s story of the year
-had campaigns featured on CNN, Fox, CNBC, The Today Show, AOL, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, Gawker, L.A. Times, and The Guardian.
-won One Show Gold, Silver, Bronze, merits, Cannes short lists, Effies, Webbys, Mashie, Shorty (Best Use of Humor), Addys, FCS Portfolio, Jay Chiat Award, etc.
-guided creative development on Citi, Crest, Nescafe and Aflac, managing creative teams.
-supervised entire television production process: managing clients, creative teams, production company, approving all casting, location, editorial + finishing, final mix recording, etc.
-was client liaison, creative dept. lead presenter and agency representative at presentations, and partner agency meetings, working closely with all PR, in-store, digital, social, Hispanic and retail entities.
-developed strategic briefs, consumer profiles and positioning statements, mapping the customer journey for branded content and integrated digital marketing initiatives, working in concert with clients, brand planning team and strategists.
Concept Farm – Creative Director (2007-2009)
-point man on the BMW Motorcycles account, managing several creative teams, developing strategic initiatives, writing print, digital, broadcast, and supervising all digital, social and television production.
-wrote, produced and directed branded content viral films and created microsites for 360 initiatives.
-developed first community web site for BMW riders, planning UX, design, functionality, photography and writing all copy.
-created, supervised and coordinated development of all content on bmwmotorcycles.com: editorial pieces, films, newsletters, product copy, email blasts, retail initiatives, and collateral.
-wrote and produced commercials for ESPN
-pitched and sold Stroke Awareness PSA campaign to the American Heart Association.
